L'exposition DES CHEVEUX ET DES POILS

The exhibition DES CHEVEUX ET DES POILS

Heading to the surroundings of the Louvre Museum, entering into the Museum of Decorative Arts for this exhibition about hair, on which we had high expectations.

The concept revolves around a journey through the various aspects and evolution of hair representations throughout different eras.

The first part of the exhibition focused on the historical aspect of both female and male hairstyles, especially in Europe, which somewhat narrows down the scope. From the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, the exhibition depicts a transition in styles, from ribbons to the adoption of more extravagant hairstyles.

The second section highlighted the use of wigs and hairpieces, both in history and contemporary fashion. One of the most enjoyable parts featured highly extravagant creator wigs. We let you decide whether they would be willing to wear them on the streets.

A relatively small portion of the exhibition was dedicated to the 1970s, exploring the hippie movements but also delving into the political role of hair in the quest for emancipation within the Afro-American communities. The "Black is Beautiful" movement and the aesthetics of the Black Panthers were presented as manifestations of resistance and identity affirmation, but we found the content related to this aspect somewhat sparse.
